Not just the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) maintains its positive unloading trend and highest unloading volume among all PFDA Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) since last quarter, and is continuously performing competently by providing its consumers adequate fish supply.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) maintains its positive unloading trend and highest unloading volume among all PFDA Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) since last quarter, and is continuously performing competently by providing its consumers adequate fish supply. 

Based on a special reportorial monitoring report by the PFDA - Operations Services Department and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), PFDA-GSFPC has registered 5,439.29 metric tons (MT) of unloaded fish supply during the April 8-14, 2021.

Skipjack tuna (sambangon) is on the top list of fish species with the highest unloading volume, reaching 3,295.72 MT or more than half of the week’s catch. This is followed by skipjack tuna (gulyasan), yellowfin tuna, galunggong, and matangbaka, completing the port’s top five common species with the highest availability record for the week.

As PFDA-GSFPC goes the extra mile to provide clients and stakeholders with enough fish supply and maintain its weekly unloading volume, there is a greater chance that the port will surpass its records from previous months.

PFDA Weekly Briefer for Weekly Fish Unloading from April 5 to 11, 2021

Following several weeks of decline in the unloaded volume of fish, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) is back on track in delivering quality and adequate fish to their clients and stakeholders after registering 12,806.58 metric tons (MT) of unloaded fish supply during the April 5 to 11, 2021 period.

Based on a two-week comparative report from the Operations Services Division (OSD), this significant fish supply is equivalent to a 41.28 percent increase from last week’s catch. By far, this is the second-highest unloading of fish recorded by RFPs since the start of the year, next to 13,528.63 MT unloading volume last March 15-21.

PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) led the increase of unloading volume with 6,423.20 MT (62.80 %) of fish supply.

On the other hand, PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) also contributed a large volume in this week’s record after unloading 4,474.26 MT (22.04%) of fish.

According to the report, not only PFDA-NFPC and PFDA-GSFPC have recorded significant increase in their fish unloading, but almost every port has played a huge role in the improvement of this week’s numbers. 

Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) posted a 19.06% growth or equivalent to 836.22 MT of fish. 

Subsequently, Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) has recovered from last week’s negative unloading and caught 388.54 MT (19.76%) of fish supply.  

Meanwhile, Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) steered clear from last week’s negative percentage and has recorded 361.24 MT of fish supply (22.64%). 

Moreover, Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) had the highest increase in percentage compared to all RFPs. Compared to last week’s -70.59% unloading volume, PFDA-DFPC has registered 243.04 MT (183%) of fish supply. 

To date, PFDA RFPs have already unloaded a total of 599,282.56 MT of fish since the start of the community quarantine last March 2020.

Preparing for Modified ECQ in NCR Plus. In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Central Office (PFDA-CO) and PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) continue to conduct intensive disinfection activities to bolster its fight against the spread of COVID-19 as pictured above.

In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Central Office (PFDA-CO) located in Diliman, Quezon City continues to conduct intensive disinfection activities on April 9, to bolster its fight against the spread of COVID-19.

General Services Division - Administrative Services Department led the PFDA - Central Office disinfection activities.

On the other hand, PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) conducted its monthly general cleaning on April 10 to assure safety and security of everyone in the port’s vicinity against the virus.

Aside from the PFDA - NFPC management, volunteers from various market traders associations and groups also participated in the event.

During the time of disinfection in PFDA - NFPC, some market operations were temporarily halted, particularly the night trading, but port management guaranteed that the price of fish will not be affected by the momentary closure of the markets and that there is enough supply of fish for everyone.

As the government puts NCR under a less strict Modified ECQ on April 12, PFDA-CO will continue to fully operate with limited workforce on-site and carry out unhampered services and operations for its stakeholders under work-from-home set up to assure the safety of its employees, clients, and the public. 

PFDA continues to remind everyone to follow minimum public health standards against COVID-19. Amid the easing of quarantine protocols in NCR, proper use of face mask and shield, physical distancing, and frequent hand washing is still highly recommended to avoid the further spread of the virus.

Business as Usual. As we welcome a new quarter in 2021, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) is up and ready to provide its clients and stakeholders in the National Capital Region and some parts of Central and South Luzon with sufficient fish supply.

As we welcome a new quarter in 2021, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) is up and ready to provide its clients and stakeholders in the National Capital Region and some parts of Central and South Luzon with sufficient fish supply.

According to a special reportorial monitoring report collated by the PFDA - Operations Services Department and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), PFDA-NFPC has unloaded 3,557.91 metric tons (MT) of fish supply during the April 1-7 period. By far, this is the second highest weekly record since the joint monitoring effort between PFDA and BFAR amid the reimplementation of enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region and some nearby provinces.

Based on the record, galunggong (fresh) maintains its position as the number one fish species with the highest availability of supply, taking up almost half of the port’s volume for the week (1,687.96 MT). This is followed by tamban (742.72 MT), milkfish (522.88 MT), tilapia (160.20 MT), and dalagang-bukid (105.56 MT).

With a potential easement of the community quarantine in the following days, PFDA-NFPC is determined to maintain and improve this positive record. During this extraordinary time, PFDA-NFPC is seeing to it that there is enough supply of fish for its consumers.

Country's Premier Fish Producer. Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) takes pride as the “Tuna Capital of the Philippines” and registered a significant unloading record of 65,970.70 metric tons (MT) of fish supply, the highest unloading volume across all Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) during the 1st quarter of 2021.

 Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC), which takes pride as the jewel of the “Tuna Capital of the Philippines”, registered a significant unloading record of 65,970.70 metric tons (MT) of fish supply, the highest unloading volume across all Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) during the 1st quarter of 2021.

According to reports from the Operations Services Division (OSD), PFDA-GSFPC has unloaded 23,511.58 MT for March, the most fish supply over all RFPs for the quarter. Moreover, PFDA-GSFPC registered 21,858.28 MT and 20,600.84 MT for January and February, respectively, distributed through all its consumers across Southern Philippines and some areas in the National Capital Region. 

Aside from being the leading supplier of various tuna species and other fish species in the country, PFDA-GSFPC also serves as a prime location for fish trading and post-harvest as General Santos City homes several tuna canneries. 

A total of 3,974.47 MT of fish supply has been delivered by PFDA-GSFPC to canneries, processors, and local markets across GenSan during the 1st quarter of the year. 

Furthermore, PFDA-GSFPC also supplies fish to several provinces in Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas, and Eastern and Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Zamboanga Peninsula. 

Most of the fish supply caught by PFDA-GSFPC are collected through reefer vessels and via trucking and air travel. On the other hand, the rich waters of Moro Gulf and Davao Gulf provide some of the most sought-after fish species, like tuna, that are popular not only in the Philippines but overseas as well. 

For PFDA-GSFPC, the volume of fish unloading is divided into four sectors: aquaculture, marine, overland, and frozen. During the 1st quarter, frozen fish supply showed a significant and consistent increase as months passed by, trailed by gradual increments from the rest of the sectors. 

 Yellowfin Tuna, Bullet Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Bigeye Scad, and Flying Fish are among the top fish species with the highest availability record for the quarter. 

PFDA-GSFPC upholds its promise to continuously provide its clients and stakeholders with adequate supply as we enter the 2nd quarter of the year. The port has already unloaded 1,604.04 MT of fish supply for its consumers during the first four days of April.

PFDA Weekly Briefer for Weekly Fish Unloading from March 22 to 28, 2021

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) have registered significant volume of 9,064.60 metric tons (MT) of fish supply for the March 29 to April 4 period, a slim decline of 27% from last week’s record according to reports from the Operations Services Department (OSD).

Despite the slight drop in unloading volume, PFDA Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) has recorded an increase of 12.84% (3,666.11 MT).

The decline in the volume of unloaded fish can be related to traders and stakeholders who observed the Holy Week occasion. The recent super moon phenomenon can also be a contributing factor to the slight decrease in fish supply as some fish species tend to swim deeper to avoid the excessive light emitted by the moon.

On the other hand, PFDA General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) may have experienced a waning in this week’s percentage, but still managed to unload 3,945.42 MT of fish.

After the observance of the Holy Week and potential ease of community quarantines in the coming days, the PFDA is expecting that the fish unloading volume will significantly increase as RFPs continue to provide their clients and consumers with sufficient and affordable fish supply.

So far, PFDA RFPs have supplied their stakeholders with a total of 586,475.98 MT of fish since the implementation of the community quarantine last March 2020.
