Padayon, Iloilo! Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) takes another step closer towards an improved and expanded fish port.
As of April 2021, PFDA-IFPC has already completed 41.54 percent of the construction.
By 2023, a revitalized PFDA-IFPC will be able to cater to more and more clients and stakeholders.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) has recorded another week of high unloading volume from all its Regional Fish Ports (RFP) after unloading 12,052.64 metric tons (MT) of fish or equivalent to a 1.10 percent increase during the June 7 to 13, 2021 period, based on a 2-week comparative weekly report from the Operations Services Department (OSD).
According to the report, the two ports that played a significant role in this two-week positive unloading streak are PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) with 1,622.88 MT (48.65% increase) and PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) with 287.46 MT (58.97% increase).
Not far behind are PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) and PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC), registering 598.26 MT (45.66%) and 394.81 (20.09%), respectively.
In addition, PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) also recorded a 6.55% growth or equal to 4,636.03 MT of fish.
On the other hand, it may have been a tough week for several Mindanao ports due to the strengthened COVID-19 protocols. Nevertheless, PFDA – General Santos Fish Port (PFDA-GSFPC) still managed to provide 4,461.54 MT of fishery products to its consumers despite an 18% decline. Moreover, PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) delivered 51.67 MT of fish to its clients and stakeholders following a 29% drop.
With the consistent increase in total unloading volume, the agency’s isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) Project continues to assist consumers in Metro Manila and various areas in Luzon by providing quality and affordable fishery products.
At present, the iOTG project has already sold a total of 117,183.02 kilograms of pocket-friendly fishery products and has served more than 416,133 families since the start of the pandemic last March 2020.

Under the “Build, Build, Build Program” funded by the national government, the ongoing rehabilitation and development of Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) is already at 58.61 percent into completion as of April 2021. In the next few years, unloading and post-production of various fishery and non-fishery products will be delivered to all consumers at their best quality.
For the future of PH agri-fishery sector. PFDA and DA led a dialogue with the commercial fishing industry stakeholders to discuss the industry’s status and future advancements via teleconference on June 15, 2021.
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, led by General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, together with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary for Agri-Industrialization and for Fisheries Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero, led a dialogue with the commercial fishing industry stakeholders to discuss the industry’s status and future advancements via teleconference on June 15, 2021.
One of the main objectives of this online dialogue aims to determine and address various constraints and issues surrounding the commercial fishing industry. Moreover, the forum seeks to resolve such problems through an objective discussion and devise sustainable solutions.
According to Atty. Pangapalan, this event is a good way for them to have an open communication line, especially with the members of the commercial fishing sector. He said that they will appreciate all the concerns the industry partners want to raise to the government, particularly to DA, PFDA, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI).
“We intend this to be a quarterly activity para mapag-usapan natin ang mga bagay bagay na umiikot sa ating operations. Sana po ay maging bukas ang lahat at sama-sama nating pag-usapan kung ano ang mga pwede nating gawin sa mga pressing issues na kinakaharap ng ating sektor ng pangisdaan. Kami ay desidido na talagang makagawa ng konkretong aksyon sa ating mga problema na kinakaharap ngayon,” Atty. Pangapalan affirmed.
Representatives from the commercial fishing sector across the country presented concerns that they have been experiencing in their operations. These problems include delineation of municipal waters, limited fishing capacity, closed fishing season, regulation of Vessel Monitoring System (VMS), fish importation, non-renewal of expired boat licenses, and illegal unregulated and unreported fishing, among others.
Before addressing these concerns, USec Caballero said that this dialogue is a mechanism to discuss such challenges and move forward as they study the potentials of the “blue economy”. She assured commercial fishing industry partners that they are open for discussions within the metes and bounds of the law.
“For us to effectively grow this sector, may mga bagay na kailangan nating paghandaan at ang gobyerno po ay nandyan to practically come up with regulations that will not make things better for the long-term. We are one with you to grow this sector. We will digest, analyze, assess, and come up with a follow-up discussion in this regard. Let us help understand each other and plan out for the bigger haul. Let us help each other because these challenges are ways for us to reboot and recalibrate,” USec Caballero explained.
In addition, the undersecretary talked about several areas they would like to develop and improve for the betterment of the commercial fishing industry in the future. These advancements include the big brother-small brother partnership, vessel monitoring system, record-keeping system, investments, need for training and skills enhancement, and more.
Prior to the discussion with the members of the commercial industry, PFDA Operations Services Department Officer-in-Charge, Mr. Eric M. Sims discussed the updates on fish unloading at the Regional Fish Ports (RFP) from 2017 to 2020. Subsequently, PFDA Technical Services Department Manager Engr. Danilo A. Axalan presented the current situation of the rehabilitation and improvement projects across all RFPs.
Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco and film actor Robin Padilla graced the virtual open forum. Moreover, members of PFDA Central Office and RFPs also attended the online dialogue.

PFDA-LFPC records 35% growth in unloading volume during the June 4 to 10, 2021 period
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) has recorded a 35.18 percent increase in its weekly unloading volume during the June 4 – 10, 2021 unloading period.
Based on a centralized fish unloading report by PFDA RFPs, Operations Services Department (OSD), and Public Information Division (PID), PFDA-LFPC unloaded 371.03 metric tons (MT) of fish for its consumers in Quezon, Laguna, Batangas, Bicol Region, and Metro Manila.
Records showed that galunggong took the position as the number one fish species with the highest availability of supply at 70.64 MT, followed by bangus (60.25MT), hipon (32.26 MT), tulingan (31.32 MT), and tilapia (28.08 MT).
As the province remains under GCQ until the end of the month, PFDA-LFPC will maintain round-the-clock port operations to preserve a positive trend of unloaded fish supply for its clients and stakeholders.

PFDA-ZFPC keeps its unloading streak alive during the more stringent MECQ
With the Zamboanga Peninsula placed in a more stringent Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until June 15, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex aims to keep its unloading streak alive despite the dangers connected with the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the city.
According to a centralized fish unloading report gathered by PFDA RFPs, Operations Services Department (OSD), and Public Information Division (PID), PFDA-ZFPC recorded 218.68 metric tons (MT) of fish, a three-time increase in its weekly unloading volume since mid-May.
Of this total, matangbaka recorded the highest unloading at 43.25 MT. Sardines (tunsoy and tamban), goatfish, and bakid are also on the list of fish species with the most supply.
Amidst a stricter quarantine protocol, PFDA-ZFPC is committed to ensuring sufficient fish supply for all its consumers and assuring food security during this trying time.

PFDA-GSFPC delivers significant volume of fish for the June 4 to 10, 2021 period
Following the reinstatement of a stricter general community quarantine in General Santos City, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) remained headstrong against the spread of the COVID-19 virus after delivering a significant volume of fish during the June 4 – 10, 2021 unloading period.
According to a centralized fish unloading report collected by PFDA RFPs, Operations Services Department (OSD), and Public Information Division (PID), PFDA-GSFPC managed to unload 5,016.24 metric tons (MT) of fish amid the dangers posed by the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Mindanao.
Moreover, the report showed that PFDA-GSFPC maintained a significant volume of fish for buyers, suppliers, and traders despite a 10.46% decline from last week’s unloading that can be related to thorough disinfection activities against the spread of the virus every Sunday.
This week’s decline can also be associated with the onset of the rainy season in the country.
At 3,296.47 MT, skipjack tuna (sambangon) maintains its position as the top fish species with the highest unloading tally. The list also includes skipjack tuna (gulyasan), bisugo, galunggong, and yellowfin tuna.
PFDA-GSFPC will continue to deliver a high volume of fishery products for its consumers as GenSan remains under GCQ until the end of the month.
