PFDA WEEKLY BRIEFER FOR THE MAY 31 TO JUNE 6, 2021 PERIOD
As the country re-enters the monsoon season, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) welcomed this yearly occurrence with a 3.71 percent increase in its weekly unloading volume during the May 31 - June 6, 2021 period.
According to a two-week comparative report from the Operations Services Department (OSD), PFDA RFPs unloaded 11,921.24 metric tons (MT) of fish for their nationwide consumers amidst the onset of sporadic and scattered above-normal rains in Metro Manila and the western section of the country.
Based on the report, PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) and PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) were this week’s top-performing ports with the highest unloading volume after delivering 5,449.51 MT (4.26% increase) and 4,351.03 MT (17.95% increase), respectively.
Meanwhile, PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex also recorded a 6.41% increase equivalent to 328.75 MT. On the other hand, PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex managed to recover from a dip with a 34.01% increase or 72.98 MT.
In addition, PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) recorded the highest percentage increase among all ports with 312.09% (180.83 MT). Aside from that, PFDA – Sual Fish Port registered a twofold increase (35.70 MT) in its weekly unloading volume following last week’s decline.
Finally, PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex and PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex still showed significant performance by unloading 1,091.73 MT and 410.73 MT, respectively.
As of June 6, PFDA RFPs have already unloaded a total of 691,914.51 MT of fish since the start of the community quarantine last March 2020.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) has welcomed the onset of the rainy season with a significantly high unloading volume ever recorded, according to the agency’s Modified Integrated Corporate Reporting System (MICRS) for PFDA Regional Fish Ports.
During the June 1 to 7, 2021 period, records showed that PFDA-NFPC unloaded 4,464.37 metric tons (MT) of fish supply. By far, this record is one of the highest volumes ever recorded since the start of the second quarter.
Aside from that, this week's volume was the highest start-of-the-month unloading record compared to April and May.
Galunggong remained as the number one fish species with the highest supply. Bangus, sardines, dalagang-bukid, and tilapia were also on the top common species with the highest availability record.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), intermittent and occasional above normal rainfall conditions brought by the southwest monsoon or hanging habagat will affect Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
Regardless of these unprecedented weather conditions, PFDA-NFPC is up and ready to conquer the pouring rain and supply all its consumers in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon with adequate and quality fish supply.

Pagbabakuna kontra COVID-19 virus sa mga economic frontline workers o mga manggagawang kabilang sa A4 priority group ng PFDA-NFPC, umarangkada na!
Sinimulan na ang pagbabakuna kontra COVID-19 virus sa mga economic frontline workers o mga manggagawang kabilang sa A4 priority group ng Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) noong ika-7 ng Hunyo, taong 2021.
Sa pagtutulungan ng PFDA-NFPC na pinangungunahan ni NFPC Port Manager Luz P. Ortiz at Navotas City Government sa pamumuno ni Mayor Tobias "Toby" M. Tiangco, tinatayang nasa 500 na A4 essential workers ang nabakunahan sa araw na ito.

Ayon kay PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, napakahalaga at napakaganda ng inisiyatibong ito nang sa gayon ay maipagpatuloy ng ating kasamahang mga mangingisda at mga nagtatrabaho sa loob ng ating fish port ang kanilang operasyon at makasigurado tayo na sila ay protektado laban sa COVID-19.
"Sa ating mga kasama sa PFDA, mga kliyente, at mga stakeholders, tayo po ay bahagi ng A4 economic frontliners. Hindi po nakakatakot ang magpabakuna. Ito ay kailangan natin para tuloy tuloy ang ating pagtatrabaho at protektado rin ang ating mga pamilya. Ipapatuloy din po natin ang ating pag-iingat at pagsunod sa health protocols. Sana po ay sa lalong madaling panahon, tayo pong lahat sa PFDA ay mabakunahan na," panawagan ni GM Pangapalan.
Ipinarating naman ni Navotas City Representative Cong. John Rey M. Tiangco ang kaniyang lubos na pagpapasalamat kay GM Pangapalan at Mayor Toby dahil nasimulan na ang pagpapabakuna para sa mga nasa A4 priority group sa PFDA-NFPC.
"Napakaimportante po nito dahil main industry natin ang pangingisdaan at libo-libong tao po ang pumupunta rito araw-araw. Malaking bagay po kung mapapabakunahan kung maaari ang lahat ng pumapasok sa PFDA-NFPC. Atin pong i-take advantage ang pagkakataon na ito. Layunin din po natin magkaroon ng night shift vaccination para na rin sa convenience ng ating mga economic frontline workers upang makita natin ang tuloy-tuloy na pagbabago," ani Cong. Tiangco.
Ayon kay Navotas City Health Officer Dr. Christia S. Padolina, napaka-importante na ang ating A4 essential workers ay bakunado upang ating mataguyod ang ating pamilya, ang ating ekonomiya, at ang PFDA-NFPC.
"Napakahalaga na bigyan ng atensyon ang ating A4 dito sa Navotas dahil sila ang ating main source of industry bilang ang Navotas ay ang Fishing Capital of the Philippines kaya naman napaka-importante na lahat ng nagtatrabaho sa PFDA-NFPC ay bakunado. Huwag po tayong mag-alala dahil kapag tayo ay bakunado, tayo ay protektado," paghikayat ni Dr. Padolina.
Ayon kay G. Roderic C. Santos, pangulo ng Association of Fresh Fish Traders of the Philippines, napaka-importante ng pagbabakunang ito lalo na sa mga tulad nilang kasapi ng fishing and marketing industry. Aniya, sa PFDA-NFPC nagtitipon ang mga isdang kalakal na patungong Metro Manila, Luzon, at Southern Luzon kaya naman kailangang kailangan ang bakuna upang bumalik sa normal ang pangangalakal ng isda sa Navotas.
"Para sa mga kliyente ng PFDA-NFPC nagdadalawang isip sa pagpapabakuna, hindi po tayo makaka-recover kung hindi tayo magpa-vaccine. Kailangan po natin magkaroon ng herd immunity lalo't higit dito sa ating lugar ng kalakalan. Sana po ay magpa-vaccine na tayo upang maka-recover na tayong lahat," paghihikayat ni G. Santos.
Sa mga susunod na araw, layunin ng PFDA-NFPC at Navotas City LGU na mabakunahan ang nasa mahigit kumulang 19,000 populasyon ng port na binubuo ng mga kawani ng PFDA – NFPC at iba’t ibang mga manggagawa at mga kliyente sa port. Isasagawa ang pagbabakuna sa PFDA-NFPC A4 priority group hanggang Biyernes, ika-11 ng Hunyo. Inaasahan naman na ang ikalawang dose ng bakuna para sa mga nabakunahan ngayong araw ay magsisimula sa ika-5 ng Hulyo, taong 2021.

Despite several days of severe weather conditions brought by Tropical Storm Dante, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) conquered rough seas and raging currents to deliver adequate fish supply to its clients and stakeholders during the May 28 to June 3, 2021 unloading period.
Based on a centralized fish unloading report prepared by PFDA RFPs, Operations Services Department (OSD), and Public Information Division (PID), PFDA-GSFPC managed to unload a significant volume of 5,602.34 metric tons (MT) of fish, only a 1.78 percent decline considering the dangers posed by TS Dante to fishing vessels and port activities.
Skipjack (gulyasan), skipjack (sambangon), bisugo, yellowfin tuna, and galunggong (frozen) maintained their positions of having the highest availability of supply.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the tropical storm may finally exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday (June 5). With that in mind, PFDA-GSFPC will continue to deliver enough fishery products, rain or shine, to all its consumers.

PFDA WEEKLY BRIEFER FOR THE MAY 24 TO 30, 2021 PERIOD
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) finished off another week with 11,494.38 metric tons (MT) of unloaded fish supply, a 4% slide compared from last week’s unloading, during the May 24 to 30, 2021 period.
Based on a two-week comparative report collected by the Operations Services Department (OSD), PFDA RFPs have suffered a slight blow before the month ends. This decline can be related to last week’s Super Flow Blood Moon affecting fishing activities.
According to studies, this natural decline in fish supply may be attributed to said astronomical event causing various fish species to swim deeper to hide from too much light emitted by the moon.
Aside from that, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported a lingering intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) last week that can also be a factor in this week’s unloading decline.
Despite the minor contraction in this week’s catch, PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) has registered a 4.35% increase (5,227.01 MT) compared to last week’s record.
On the other hand, PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) may have experienced a 7.80%, but the port still managed to unload 3,688.78 MT of fish for its clients and stakeholders.
In addition, PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) is only 0.73% shy to regain increasing trend but still recorded a significant volume of 1,662.28 MT.
So far, PFDA RFPs have unloaded a total of 681,245.16 MT of fish since the implementation of the community quarantine in March 2020.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), together will all its Regional Fish Ports (RFP), took part in the double celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month with the theme "May Pandemya Man o Wala, Magsasaka't Mangingisda, Maasahan ng Bansa” and the 21st National Fisherfolk Day on May 31, 2021.
These events aim to give recognition to the role and contribution of our fisherfolks in the sustainable development and management of our fishing communities.
This year, despite the constant looming dangers brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and extreme weather conditions, our fisherfolk continue to ensure that there will be enough food for everyone. They remain as our capeless heroes fighting against hunger and towards food security.
To celebrate these momentous occasions, the PFDA, through its Public Information Division, developed and produced a tribute video entitled "Paglaot: Pagpupugay sa mga Mangingisdang Pilipino”. This video aims to honor and give thanks to our valiant fisherfolk for their hard work, commitment, and dedication to help the Philippine economy especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through this video, the agency will take you on a journey about the bittersweet life of a fisherfolk. Every common misconception and the true essence of being a fisherfolk was showcased in the video to enlighten everyone about the real situation of those who give us food on our plates.

PFDA-GSFPC bounces back. The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) unloaded 5,703.74 metric tons (MT) of fish or 15.37 percent more on May 21-27, 2021, as compared to last week’s unloading record.

In a centralized fish unloading report collated by PFDA RFPs, Operations Services Department (OSD), and Public Information Division (PID), PFDA-GSFPC is making significant progress again after successfully recovering from weeks of decline caused by Tropical Storm Crising which hit land on May 13.
Of this total, skipjack (gulyasan) recorded the highest unloading with a total of 1,049.12 MT. Skipjack (sambangon), bisugo, yellowfin tuna, and galunggong (frozen) were also on the list of the top five fish species with the highest availability of supply.
Now that the port is gaining momentum once again, PFDA-GSFPC aims to continue this positive shift and deliver more fish to all its clients and stakeholders in the coming weeks.
