PFDA stays true to its mandate to promote the country's fisheries sector by discussing future collaboration with Batangas
In the pursuit of boosting economic activities in the province, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), headed by General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, met with the Batangas Provincial Government to discuss possible collaboration on the establishment of an Agri-Industrial Business Corridors (ABCs) project, June 18, 2021.
The development of ABCs is one of Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Dr. William Dar’s reformed 18 Key Strategies dubbed as “One DA” holistic approach strategies towards a modern and industrialized agriculture and fisheries sector.
Dubbed as the Batangas Access Zone Project, the PFDA team and Batangas LGU visited and went around the target development site, particularly in Brgy. San Pascual, Batangas City, where a fish port complex may be potentially established based on the project overview.
Once the project is realized, this improvement plan can help accommodate more vessels to dock in the Batangas International Port and may help surpass Port Manila’s cargo handling statistics. In addition, this project is set to provide more business prospects for investors and create more job opportunities brought about by the development in the area.
Along with GM Pangapalan, Acting Assistant General Manager Ms. Iris De Vera, Corporate Planning and MIS Department OIC Ms. Gina Reyes, Construction Management Division - Technical Services Department Chief Engr. Eduardo Manalo, Corporate Board Secretary Atty. Jose Ruiz III and Public Information Division OIC Mr. Mc Christian Julius Macaranas II were also part of PFDA’s visiting team.

PFDA-NFPC supports women frontline workers amid COVID-19
In a bid to empower women working as economic frontline workers, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) participated in a Gender and Development (GAD) stakeholders’ consultation on strengthening economic support to rural women during the COVID-19 pandemic spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) via teleconference on June 18, 2021.
As part of the GAD agenda, the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) presented their ongoing lending programs and livelihood interventions for economic frontline workers during the pandemic.
In addition, several challenges encountered by women working in the fishing industry during the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed in the forum, while some recommendations were put forward to combat these constraints.
Moreover, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), together with other key implementing agencies in coordination with local government units (LGU), presented how they are continuously working to help improve the condition of women fisherfolks through the implementation of various projects and activities in support of the government's National Fisheries Development Program.
Ms. Cerespink Aguila of PFDA-NFPC Technical Working Group for GAD and Ms. Araceli Andaya-Representative of NFPC Eco Friendly Women took part in the online discussion. Various women’s fisherfolk associations also attended the meeting.

| PFDA attends Fisheries ManCom Meeting with DA chief |
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) attended the Fisheries Management Committee Meeting led by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Dr. William D. Dar to discuss policy directions and ways forward in the industry via teleconference on June 18, 2021.
Together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Secretary Dar presented a scaled-up action plan for the fishing sector. In addition, the Regional Daily Food Fish Commitment for NCR was also discussed during the meeting.
Before the meeting ended, the DA chief gave his directives to all the participants to continuously support the fisheries sector and work towards food security with prosperous and empowered fisherfolk.
PFDA Operations Services Department Manager Mr. Eric M. Sims, PFDA-NFPC Port Manager Ms. Luz P. Ortiz, and PFDA-NFPC Market Operations Division Officer-In-Charge Mr. Melvin A. Rabang attended the meeting.

PFDA-ZFPC maintains rising fish unloading streak, matangbaka again tops supply list
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) had once again surpassed its weekly unloading record for four consecutive weeks, according to a centralized PFDA RFPs fish unloading report prepared by the Operations Services Department (OSD) and Public Information Division (PID) during the June 11 to 17, 2021 period.
Based on the report, PFDA-ZFPC has recorded a 38.12 percent increase or equivalent to 321.66 metric tons (MT) of fish available to all its clients and stakeholders across Mindanao and some parts of Western and Central Visayas.
Big-eye scad, also known as matangbaka, remains on top of the list of fish species with the highest supply. This week, matangbaka is responsible for 34.15% of the port’s unloaded fish (109.84 MT). Completing the top five list of species with the highest availability for the week are galunggong (44.04 MT), sardines (35.95 MT), tulingan (11.91 MT), and squid (10.02 MT)
PFDA-ZFPC has already exceeded last quarter’s total unloading record, but the port will continue to work tirelessly for its consumers to maintain this increasing trend in the succeeding weeks.

Busier days are ahead in Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Davao Fish Port Complex as the construction of several facilities and establishments in the port continue to go in full swing.
As of April 2021, PFDA-DFPC goes ahead of schedule after completing 45.66 percent of the project.
Once the project is complete and operational, the port is expected to be more resilient and adaptive to any obstacle along the way.

| PFDA meets with Therma Mobile to discuss plans for NFPC | |
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), led by General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, met with officials from AboitizPower subsidiary Therma Mobile, Inc. (TMO) to discuss future collaboration plans with PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC), held at NFPC Administration Building, Navotas City on June 17, 2021.
During the meeting, TMO went through their project proposal regarding the company’s direct connection to the new National Grid Power Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) substation within PFDA-NFPC. In addition, TMO reps also presented upcoming plans and potential collaboration opportunities related to the port’s rehabilitation project.
Furthermore, TMO discussed the company’s request for renewal of its Contract of Lease with PFDA-NFPC.
GM Pangapalan, PFDA-NFPC Acting Assistant Port Manager Mr. Arfilo Catipay, NFPC-PMD Chief Engr. Romeo S. Dabu, and NFPC-PMD Engr. Adren A. Tamayo attended the meeting for PFDA. On the side of TMO, Vice President for Corporate Services Mr. Jokin Aboitiz, Aboitiz Power Oil Business Unit President and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Ronaldo Ramos, and AVP for Operations Engr. Zyrel Jumalon were present in the discussion.

Padayon, Iloilo! Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) takes another step closer towards an improved and expanded fish port.
As of April 2021, PFDA-IFPC has already completed 41.54 percent of the construction.
By 2023, a revitalized PFDA-IFPC will be able to cater to more and more clients and stakeholders.
