PFDA-GSFPC inoculates port workers in partnership with General Santos LGU. A total of 2,500 fish port workers, laborers, and plant and cannery workers from PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) received their COVID-19 vaccine. |
Under the combined efforts of Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and the local government unit of General Santos City, a total of 2,500 fish port workers, laborers, and plant and cannery workers from PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) received their COVID-19 vaccine, held at the Fish Port Complex Bakuna Center in Market Hall 1 on July 24 and 26-28, 2021.
This COVID-19 vaccination program aims to have PFDA-GSFPC employees protected against the spread of the virus. The agency and GenSan-LGU wanted to ensure the safety and security of everyone working inside the port, especially those economic frontliners who are consistently working amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Even before the pandemic, PFDA-GSFPC is considered to be one of the sturdiest economic pillars not only in the city but in the entire region.
General Santos City Health Officer Dr. Rochelle Gajete-Oco expressed her appreciation for the all-out support of PFDA-GSFPC management in this endeavor. Moreover, she thanked the warm acceptance of the fish port staff and personnel for their willingness to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
“We are equally grateful for the effort in making our Resbakuna Express jab a success. We will regroup and build a stronger team,” Dr. Oco said.
Through generous contributions of SARGEN Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association Inc. and Socsksargen Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII), who both allocated COVID-19 vaccines for the fish port workers, PFDA-GSFPC is looking forward to having more vaccine doses for essential workers under the A2, A3, and A4 priority group and a possible extension of the vaccination rollout.
The 2,500 vaccines were part of the 15,000 doses directly delivered to the city, as committed by the National Task Force against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr.

PFDA-Sual Fish Port registers increase in unloading volume amid enhanced monsoon rains
Despite strong winds and relentless downpour caused by Typhoon Fabian and enhanced southwest monsoon, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) registered a 64.31 percent increase during July 19 - 25, 2021 unloading period.
According to the agency’s Modified Integrated Corporate Reporting System (MICRS), PFDA-SFP showed a significant increase totaling 79.13 metric tons (MT) in its weekly fish unloading volume despite extreme challenges brought by Fabian and enhanced Hanging Habagat.
Based on the collected data, the volume of unloaded fish in all Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) were knocked back as severe weather conditions hit the country, but PFDA-SFP remained steadfast and delivered a significant increase in volume of fish to supply all its consumers.
Records showed that skipjack tuna or gulyasan took the position as the number one fish species with the highest availability of supply at 34.3 MT, followed by galunggong (29.4 MT) and yellowfin tuna (12.075 MT).
As the typhoon continues to move further away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), scattered rains are still expected due to intensified Habagat. Nevertheless, PFDA-SFP will double its effort to maintain, or even surpass, its high unloading volume and deliver quality and affordable fish to its clients and stakeholders.

Weekly Briefer for the July 19 to 25, 2021 period and volume of fish sold at isDA ON THE GO as of July 28, 2021
Due to intense persistent downpour caused by Typhoon Fabian, fish unloading volume in Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) went down by half compared from previous week’s record but still managed to significantly unload 6,056.45 metric tons (MT) during the July 19 to 25, 2021 unloading period.
According to a two-week comparative report from the Operations Services Department (OSD), this week’s decline was due to Fabian which enhanced southwest monsoon rains or Hanging Habagat affecting various port and market operations in all RFPs.
However, PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) maintained an increasing record after registering a 64.31% increase, or equivalent to 79.13 MT of fish.
On a brighter note, the agency’s isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) Project continuously provides quality and affordable fresh-frozen fishery products in Metro Manila and various areas in Luzon despite the sudden shift in fish unloading volume.
Based on the report, the iOTG project has already sold a total of 122,529.17 kilograms of affordable fishery products and has served more than 435,118 families since the start of the pandemic last March 2020.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) delivered 12,315.63 metric tons (MT) of fishery products available to all customers nationwide during the July 12 to 18, 2021 unloading period.
According to a two-week comparative report gathered by the Operations Services Department (OSD), the aggregate weekly fish unloading across all PFDA RFPs experienced a slim decline of 7.86 percent in mid-July.
Despite the slight drop, PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) unloaded 125.78 MT of fish or equivalent to a 78.76% increase compared to its previous week unloading. Subsequently, PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) also recorded a significant increase in its weekly fish unloading volume totaling 69.99% (257.55 MT).
On the other hand, PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) and PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) both suffered a blow in this week’s unloading period. Nevertheless, these powerhouse fish ports managed to unload two of the highest volumes for the week at 5,880.95 MT and 3,426.67 MT, respectively.
Meanwhile, PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) continues to ride the positive trend with a 0.22% increase or equal to 1,546.92 MT of fish.
In addition, PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex recorded an increase of 2.90% (477.13 MT) in weekly unloading for the third consecutive time.
