The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority supports the Cooperative Month Celebration with the theme, “KoopPinas: Nagkakaisang Lakas Para sa Makabuluhan at Sama-samang Pag-unlad!” It is an annual celebration for the entire cooperative movement highlighting the contribution of cooperatives to the economic growth of the country.
Pursuant to Republic Act. No. 11502 titled An Act Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the “National Cooperative Month”, the month of October is a significant month not just for the CDA Philippines but for the more than 18,800 cooperatives with 11.5 million-strong membership nationwide.
Through the isDA ON THE GO project, the partnership between PFDA and CDA is vital in helping micro and small cooperatives nationwide enhance their capability and attain economic sustainability and food security through the provision of accessible and affordable fish and fishery products across the country.
Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC), in partnership with the Bulan Regional Health Unit (RHU), inoculated port stakeholders with much-needed COVID-19 booster shots through the Department of Health’s (DOH) nationwide PinasLakas vaccination campaign, held at the PFDA-BFPC Grounds on September 28, 2022.
According to the PFDA-BFPC Management, the spread of the COVID-19 virus might have decelerated over time, but as a public office, it is their duty to assure the safety and herd immunity of their employees and stakeholders against the deadly COVID-19 virus.
The DOH-run PinasLakas vaccination drive is the national government’s way of boosting the country’s vaccine programs to help maintain the country's wall of immunity and to assure that progress towards a more health-conscious and safer nation is assured. According to DOH, with these efforts, combating the COVID-19 virus and other vaccine-preventable diseases will be easier for the country.
A total of 34 people received their booster shots through this campaign.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) participated in the Training Course on Fisheries Enforcement and Prosecution held in Bangkok, Thailand on September 26 to 30, 2022.
Conducted by the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) of Bangkok together with the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the main objective of the training course was to provide legal and policy advisors and enforcement personnel from regional government fisheries and marine sectors with a general foundation of the legal tools to effectively monitor, enforce and successfully prosecute fisheries violations.
In addition, the training also tackled enforcement and investigative techniques and procedures, including ship bridge and instrument training as well as import and landing inspections from fishing vessels, reefers, and container vessels.
Ms. Marife F. Borja, Division Chief of Admin and Finance Services Division and concurrent Officer-in-Charge of Harbor and Market Operations Division of PFDA–Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC), served as the representative of the agency.
25 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste joined the training course.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) has celebrated the 24th General Santos City Tuna Fish Festival with the theme “Pista ng Karagatan: Ibalik and Saya” through the annual Grand Fish Fest sa Fish Port 2022 held at the PFDA-GSFPC Grounds on September 2, 2022.
As part of the month-long celebration of the Tuna Fish Festival, the Grand Fish Fest is an annual event organized by the PFDA-GSFPC to celebrate the abundant tuna industry in the city. In addition, this one-day activity aims to give homage to all the blessings that the province of Sarangani receives from the bountiful harvest of the sea.
Port employees, fishermen, laborers, and other port clients battled it out in various contests and competitions. This year, there were six main events held during the Grand Fish Fest:
- TUNAy na Mabilis: Linis Tuna (fastest and cleanest tuna de-gutting and gilling won by Tenpoint Manufacturing Corporation)
- TUNAy na Malakas (longest time for holding a 35-kilogram tuna won by Mr. Russel Corpus with a time record of 1:24:31)
- TUNAy na Bigatin (biggest and heaviest catch of the day won by a 126-kilogram tuna)
- TUNAy na Talentado: A Doble Kara Challenge (won by Mr. Gilbert Loyola)
- Langoy, Puzzle, Sack Race Marathon
- Hataw Heneral: Hip Hop Dance Contest with TunaFest Jingle Dance Face-Off (won by ESTMD Kompany)
In addition to this day-long activity, the Generals from the Tuna Capital of the Philippines enjoyed various festival highlights including the 22nd National Tuna Congress, Tuna Fest Skills Competition, Sugbahan sa Dalan, GLEO WEEK: Feast of the Sea Creative Expo, beauty pageants, and fairs that are held all over the city for the entire month of September.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and all its Regional Fish Ports (RFP) nationwide joined the 2022 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) with the theme “Fighting for Trash-Free Seas: Pilipinas Ending the Flow of Trash at the Source", held on September 17, 2022.
Led by PFDA Officer-in-Charge General Manager (OICGM) Ms. Iris R. de Vera, hundreds of volunteers, port employees, and port clients from all PFDA RFPs actively participated in the simultaneous cleanup drive where they collected and segregated sacks of plastics, bottles, and other non-biodegradable materials.
OICGM de Vera welcomed everyone who attended the nationwide activity as she joined the cleanup drive from the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC). After two years of being under strict and heavy restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PFDA has once again rejoined the ICC 2022.
“Ang selebrasyon natin ngayong araw ay nagpapa-alala sa atin ng kalinisan hindi lamang sa ating sarili and sa ating bakuran, kundi pati na rin sa ating pinagtatrabahuhan. Ang kahulugan ng ating cleanup drive ngayon ay ang responsible living. Tayo mismo sa ating sarili, dapat natin i-practice na kung anuman ang ating gagawin, may epekto ito sa susunod na mga araw,” OICGM de Vera said.
Since its establishment in 1986, the International Coastal Cleanup has become the largest volunteer effort for the ocean’s health wherein people all over the world gather on shorelines, rivers, lakes, and other waterways to remove plastics and other debris that are harmful to our waters and to marine animals.
In the Philippines, Presidential Proclamation No. 470 series of 2003 declares the third Saturday of September of each year as the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day in observance of the Global Coast Clean-up Celebrations.
The country joined the ICC in 1994 with the International Maritime Alliance as the country coordinator.

In the pursuit of maintaining its ISO certification, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) held a three-day Awareness Orientation on ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) to all units at the PFDA – Central Office (CO) on September 14 to 16, 2022.
ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognized standard for quality management system (QMS). This serves as substantial proof that organizations consistently provide quality services that meet customer demands, enhance client satisfaction, and continuously aim to improve the organization’s QMS.
Adhering to the ISO standards is also part of the national government's quality management program. This annual audit is required under the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and -Controlled Corporations (GCG) as one of its indicators under the performance evaluation system.
Quality Management Representative (QMR) and Corporate Planning and MIS Department Manager Ms. Gina J. Reyes welcomed everyone who attended the orientation. She highly encouraged everyone to actively listen and participate in the orientation. Ms. Reyes said that this three-day QMS awareness orientation can help everyone, from senior employees to new hires, to review and remind them of the basic concepts of QMS and to refresh their knowledge since we have now moved to our newly renovated building.
"It has been almost three years na walang face-to-face na ISO certification. It is within the same three years nang makatanggap ng ISO standards certification ang Central Office. We have so many justifiable and acceptable reasons why we received this certification but this coming November 2022, we have a new challenge to recertify our office since we are now in our newly renovated building,” Ms. Reyes stated.
"Huwag tayong mapagod. While we are doing this, lahat ng ito ay para sa mga customers, our stakeholders, and our clients who are waiting for the improved, renovated, and rehabilitated facilities sa ating mga ports,” the QMR said.
On the last day, the PFDA-CO QMS Team met with personnel from the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) via teleconference to conduct their QMS awareness orientation.
The QMS for the PFDA Central Office involves Public Administration covering Project Management while the QMS for the six (6) Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) cover Market and Harbor Operation.

As COVID-19 restrictions loosen, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Camaligan Fish Port (PFDA-CFP) spearheaded a COVID-19 mass vaccination drive for port employees, port clients, and nearby residents to bolster their protection against the deadly virus, held at the PFDA-CFP Grounds on September 13, 2022.
The PFDA-CFP partnered with the Regional Health Office of Camaligan, Camarines Sur in the inoculation of 65 walk-in and voluntary individuals.
In August, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) eased COVID-19 restrictions in the province of Camarines Sur to the least strict Level 1. This level refers to areas wherein case transmission is low and decreasing, total bed utilization rate, and intensive care unit utilization rate is low.
Despite the easing situation, the PFDA-CFP aims to provide all its stakeholders additional protection against the lingering dangers of the COVID-19 virus through this mass vaccination activity.
