Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC), in collaboration with the Iloilo City General Services Office (ICGSO), conducted a seminar on Republic Act (R.A.) 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 to its clients on April 28 and 29, 2025, at the PFDA-IFPC Admin Building.

This initiative marks an important first step toward more fruitful and impactful collaborations toward the shared goal of responsible waste management and environmental sustainability. It also emphasizes the vital role of collective action in achieving a cleaner and more sustainable environment. 

PFDA-IFPC Port Manager Ms. Jovy M. Garrido started by welcoming the participants and the speakers. 

The seminar introduced the key provisions of the R. A. 9003, highlighting proper solid waste segregation, handling and disposal of household and commercial waste, community responsibilities, income opportunities through recycling and upcycling, and the Iloilo City LGU’s ongoing waste management programs.

More than 80 PFDA-IFPC clients, all of which are fish retailers, food vendors, cold storage clients, ice retailers, fish brokers, and locators, attended the seminar. Ms. Caryl M. Belo and Ms. Angeli M. Buencuchillo from the ICGSO served as the resource speakers.
