Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) braved three tropical depressions and one super typhoon that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility in August and delivered 48,096 metric tons (MT) of much-needed fish supply to all consumers nationwide. 

The PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) recovered from last month’s dip after delivering 23,034.02 MT of fish, a 4.32% increase. 

Meanwhile, as the fishing season reopens in the Davao Gulf, the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) almost tripled its monthly unloading volume to 2,393.83 MT (193.89% increase). 

Moreover, both the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) and PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) gracefully recovered following last month’s slip. The ports unloaded 560.28 MT (12.8% increase) and 422.03 MT (36.25% increase), respectively.  

In addition, the PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) also managed to recover from a previous slump despite heavy rains brought by several weather disturbances after recording 2,073.47 MT of fish, a 5.3% increase.

On the other hand, the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) suffered a setback in its monthly unloading volume due to severe weather conditions. Nevertheless, the Navotas port still managed to unload 16,702.629 MT, the second-highest volume for the month. 

Considering the dangers posed by month-long strong winds and heavy rains to fishing vessels and port activities, the PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) and the PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) have both experienced a decline in their monthly unloading. However, the Luzon ports were able to deliver 2,162.88 MT and 746.87 MT of fish, respectively.
