Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) have recorded a 19.70% climb in monthly fish unloading after delivering 58,132.09 metric tons (MT) of fish in June 2022, the highest record for the year.

According to the PFDA Modified Integrated Corporate Reporting System (MICRS), the PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) maintains its positive streak after unloading 33,109.02 MT of fish (30.91% increase), equating to more than half of this month’s volume.

Moreover, the PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex has also been persistent in its monthly unloading after registering another rise in fish volume. The South Luzon port has recorded 2,280.69 MT of fish, equivalent to a 19.54% increase. 

Meanwhile, the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) has recovered from months of decline after recording 17,605.21 MT of fish, a 14.16% increase.

In addition, the PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) registered a whopping 242.18% increase after the port tripled its monthly unloading volume to 384.20 MT. 

Furthermore, the PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) had slightly stumbled in June, but still supplied 2,162.93 MT of fishery products to its consumers.

Despite the closed fishing season in Davao Gulf, the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) continues its operations and delivers an adequate volume of fish to its consumers at 350.50 MT. 

The PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) and PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) experienced a slight dip during this period. Nevertheless, the ports delivered 1,298.33 MT and 941.22 MT of fish, respectively.

After a series of orientation and consultations, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) have launched their isDA ON THE GO partnership project and delivered five inverter chest freezers to five cooperative beneficiaries in Southern Leyte, held in Southern Leyte State University, Sogod, Southern Leyte on June 29, 2022. 

This partnership aims to help micro and small cooperatives enhance their capability and attain economic sustainability and food security by providing accessible and affordable fish and fishery products across the country through the iOTG project. 

In addition, under the initiative of outgoing PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, this is part of the agency's goal to expand the reach of the iOTG program nationwide. The PFDA guarantees that the prices of fish sold through the iOTG program are cheaper than the prevailing market price.

Moreover, the PFDA-CDA partnership will give opportunities for eligible cooperatives to market and distribute quality fish products to their communities at very affordable prices. 

The beneficiaries are San Francisco Multipurpose Cooperative (SFMPC), Tigbao Primary MPC, Liloan Farmers Agriculture Cooperative, Maac MPC, and Sogod People's Welfare Producers Cooperative.

In January 2022, the Local Government of Sogod initially received 10 iOTG chest freezers as part of the PFDA’s relief operations to Typhoon Odette-stricken communities. 

Regional Municipal Port Operations Division (RMPOD) Chief Ms. Janet T. Manalo, PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) OIC-Port Manager Ms. Jacqueline B. Pauig, and Mr. Antonino Carlos O. Del Prado of PFDA isDA ON THE GO Business Office (IBO) have presented the agency profile and conducted an iOTG orientation to coop-beneficiaries that attended the launching.

Meanwhile, the CDA was represented by CDA Board Member and Head of Agriculture Cooperatives Cluster Dr. Virgilio R. Lazaga, Deputy Administrator Ray R. Elevazo, CPDAD Chief Ms. Melissa C. Santos, and other members of the CDA Region VIII Extension Office. 

Sogod-LGU representatives were also present during the launching of the program.

This activity completes the first cycle of the partnership between PFDA iOTG project and CDA.

Fifteen cooperative beneficiaries have each received one top-of-the-line chest freezer under the isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) collaboration project of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) during the second batch of distribution to Metro Manila cooperatives, held at the CDA Grounds, Cubao, Quezon City, on June 27, 2022. 

This activity is part of the PFDA-CDA iOTG expansion plan to work with more cooperatives from various sectors in Metro Manila by providing chest freezers to cooperatives from various sectors. 

On behalf of PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, PFDA Assistant General Manager Ms. Iris R. de Vera expressed her sincerest thanks to CDA Chairman Undersecretary Mr. Joseph B. Encabo and the entire CDA for this partnership. She said that the CDA has helped a lot in the PFDA’s goal to deliver the fish supply closer to the consuming public through the cooperatives. 

“With our growing effort to expand the iOTG program, this partnership with the CDA has played a significant part in this effort. Sisiguraduhin po namin na magtutuloy itong mag-prosper sa mga susunod pang mga taon. Rest assured that the PFDA will work hand in hand with you and ensure the efficiency of the program. We will continue to support you and we will do our best.” AGM de Vera said. 

Ms. de Vera also said that a program like this is one of the best steps to address the impending crisis and high commodity prices we are experiencing now. 

On the other hand, CDA Chairman USec. Encabo expressed his gratitude to the PFDA for partnering with the CDA. He said that this project is a call of the national government to have collaborative measures with other agencies to uplift the livelihood program of the cooperatives in the country, especially now that we are experiencing an economic crisis. 

“Hindi lang isda ang binigay ninyo [PFDA], kundi puso at buhay para sa kooperatiba… To our cooperatives, you are assured that the products na ibibigay ng PFDA sa inyo ay quality products… We are about to finish out first cycle of iOTG partnership. Sana kung sinuman ang susunod na administrasyon ng PFDA, tignan pa rin nila ang coop sector.” USec. Encabo said.

After their messages, representatives from the CDA-identified cooperatives signed a contract agreement with PFDA.

Sister Sharon Suralta of Pinag-isang Yaman Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PYMPC) in Las Piñas thanked the PFDA and CDA for the iOTG partnership. She said that being one of the chosen cooperatives is a great opportunity for their community and their cooperative.

“Malaki po ang magiging benefit nito sa community namin lalong lalo na po sa kooperatiba namin. Dahil sa murang price ng isda, marami pong matutulungan. Ang aming pong mga member ay ordinaryong mga housewife in our community kaya kayang-kaya po nila mabili iyong mga price. Maraming salamat po.” Sister Sharon expressed. 

Aside from PYMPC, among the coop-recipients were Ang Palengke MPC, Canossa Marikina Consumers Cooperative, Damata Kadima Sunrise View Housing Cooperative, Juan Transport Service Cooperative, Kasama Savings and Credit Cooperative, Kamay Krafts Cooperative, Manila International Airport TS & MPC, Market 3, 4 & 5 Fish Traders Consumers Cooperative, NAPICO MPC, NIA Central Office MPC, Northville II MPC, Poverello Consumers Cooperative, Sun Valley MPC, and Tagumpay at Asenso MPC.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), in collaboration with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), launched their isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) partnership project in Bohol province, held at the Central Visayas Multi-Species Nursery Demonstration and Training Center, Calape, Bohol on June 24, 2022.

As part of the PFDA’s iOTG expansion plan in Mindanao, seven CDA-registered coop-beneficiaries have each received one brand-new inverter chest freezer which will be used for the sale of fresh-frozen iOTG products.

The beneficiaries of launching were the Bohol Federation of Agrarian Reform Communities Cooperatives, Buon Province Agriculture Cooperative, Getafe Fisherfolk Marketing Cooperative, Mabini Fisherfolk Marketing Cooperative, Macaban Kakaw-Krayollo and Lubi-Netibo Agriculture Cooperative, Rural Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Taliban Fisherfolk Marketing Cooperative.

This first batch of freezer distribution is part of the Memorandum of Understanding inked by PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan and CDA Chairperson USec. Joseph B. Encabo in October 2021, marking the delivery of inverter chest freezers to 60 cooperatives of the marginalized sector under the CDA nationwide.

During the launch, the PFDA sold 100 kilograms of fishery products provided by LYRS Davao Corporation to all the event participants.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) distributed chest freezers to cooperative beneficiaries in Region XI as part of the Mindanao launching of the PFDA-CDA isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) partnership project, held in PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) on June 22, 2022. 

To further expand the iOTG project’s operation nationwide, the PFDA, in collaboration with CDA, handed over 20 brand-new chest freezers to 20 identified coop-beneficiaries from the different cities and provinces of Region XI. This partnership aims to widen the reach of high-quality fresh-frozen fishery products to consumers at very affordable prices while giving an additional source of income to micro and small cooperatives all over the country.

After the ceremonial turnover of chest freezers, representatives of each cooperative signed a contract agreement with PFDA to formally commence the iOTG collaboration project. This signing was witnessed by CDA Chairman Undersecretary Mr. Joseph B. Encabo and representatives from LYRS Davao Corporation and DFPC Employee Multi-Purpose Cooperative. 

Before the distribution of the freezers, Ms. Janet T. Manalo, Chief of PFDA Regional & Municipal Project Operations Division Chief conducted an orientation about the PFDA-CDA iOTG partnership on June 21. She explained the project's business model, product lines (frozen-fish and fresh fish), and distribution channels.

In addition, Ms. Manalo also presented the accomplishments and ways forward of the iOTG program and the roles and responsibilities of PFDA and the CDA cooperatives when the partnership occurs.

PFDA-DFPC Port Manager Engr. Albert P. Aguinaldo and other PFDA-DFPC and PFDA Central Office personnel attended the activity. CDA Chairman Undersecretary Mr. Joseph B. Encabo and other CDA Board of Directors were also present during the launching. 

Representatives from the Local Government Unit of Davao City also graced the event.

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority employees are directed to observe and conform to the following Water Conservation Measures, as enumerated in Section C of the PFDA Office Order No. 08, s. 2004:

1. Conserve water by using a glass of water for brushing teeth and a basin in washing dishes to minimize continuous flow of water.

2. In cleaning vehicles, use a pail of water instead of water flowing from the water hose.

3. Faucet and lavatory leaks should be reported immediately to the PFDA-General Services Division for repair. 

This is pursuant to the Administrative Order No. 24, s. 2020 which mandates all National Government Agencies, Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCC), and State Universities and Colleges to strictly implement water conservation measures.
