July PFDA 2024 Monthly Briefer v2

 

Amid inclement weather and closed fishing season, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) unloaded 50,862.42 metric tons (MT) of fish in July 2024. 

With a staggering 29.05% increase, the PFDA – Camaligan fish Port (PFDA-CFP) delivered a 0.271 MT of fish this month. The PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) also showed a significant performance unloading 3,053.05 MT of fish, resulting in a 21.86% increase for this month. 

In addition, the PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) and the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) saw an increase in their fish unloading with an increase of 10.45% and 3.69% respectively.   

Meanwhile, the amount of fish unloaded at the PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSPFC) saw a little decline. In spite of this, PFDA-GSFPC produced an astounding 25,205.76 MT of fish.  

The first PFDA RFP in Luzon and the largest in the country, the PFDA - Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) amassed 17,765.673 MT of fish.

The PFDA-Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) then had a minor decline in offloading with a 1,793.07 MT of fish in July. Additionally, there was also a slight decrease at the PFDA - Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC), where 1,785.20 MT of fish were unloaded.

Additionally, despite the closed fishing season in Davao Gulf from June 1 to August 31, 2024, the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) still delivered 182.377 MT of fish.

PFDA RFPs continuously do what they can to supply their clients and stakeholders with enough and appropriately priced fishery products, despite occasional difficulties brought on by closed fishing seasons and inclement weather.

PFDA Agency News 08292024 PFDA IFPC conducts Gender Sensitivity Awareness Orientation

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) conducted a gender sensitivity awareness seminar at the PFDA-IFPC Gender and Development (GAD) Building on August 8, 2024. 

Gender stereotypes1, sexism2, violence against women, equal access to justice, balanced participation in decision-making, gender mainstreaming3, intersectionality4, and empowerment are the topics discussed in the orientation led by speaker Mr. Sashah B. Dioso. These topics aim to raise awareness, challenge discrimination, and promote an inclusive and equitable environment for all.

The purpose of the orientation is to promote equality, reduce gender-based discrimination, enhance safety, and encourage inclusive decision-making. It also plays a key role in increasing awareness about gender issues, fostering respect, and ensuring compliance with regulations. This initiative is part of PFDA’s continuous commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the community.

Fish retailers, food vendors, commercial building lessees, and PFDA-IFPC employees actively participated in the GAD seminar. The one-day activity was organized and facilitated by the PFDA-IFPC GAD Technical Working Group (TWG).

PFDA Agency News08222024 PFDA NFPC PSA conduct learning session on fish unloading data generation

 

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) welcomed a team from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the learning session on the collection, recording, and processing of fish unloading data of the port,on August 20, 2024 at the PFDA-NFPC Gender and Development (GAD) Building.

PFDA-NFPC Market Operations Division Officer-in-Charge Ms. Cerespink A. Aguila led the learning session orientation which highlighted the Harbor and Market Operations.  Ms. Aguila discussed the overview of the PFDA-NFPC. Furthermore, she elaborated on how the PFDA-NFPC gathers data from daily fish unloading inside the port.

Moreover, Ms. Aguila discussed the forms and documents used by market checkers during port operations and how the data gathered are synched to the PFDA’s Modified Incorporated Corporate Reporting System (MICRS)

Chief Statistical Specialist Ms. Reinelda P. Adriano, Senior Statistical Specialist Ms. Lunesa A. Mojica, Statistical Specialist Ms. Jelany A. Manonday, and Statistical Analyst Ms. Josephine S. Santos from the PSA - Fisheries Statistics Division attended the orientation.

Afterwards, the PSA visiting team together with the PFDA-NFPC team toured around Market Halls 1 and 2 to observe the actual data collection of market checkers and the actual fish unloading activities of PFDA-NFPC clients. 

The last part of the learning session tackled the recording and encoding of market checkers and the generation of reports, which are processed, completed, and verified digitally.

PFDA-NFPC’s Overall Nighttime Supervisor Ms. Nenita Lanceta and Overall Daytime Supervisor Ms. Joyce E. Velasquez also assisted the PSA visiting team during the one-day learning session.

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) celebrated its 48th anniversary with the theme, “Leveling up the Fishing Industry towards a Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas”, at the National Food Authority (NFA) Penthouse, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, on August 9, 2024. 

Established on August 11, 1976, the PFDA continuously leveled up the fishing industry in the Philippines by providing strong fishery post-harvest facilities nationwide. This year’s retro, pixel, and video game-themed occasion emphasized the Agency’s continuous level up, not just in the fishing industry, but also in boosting the country’s economic and national growth. 

The week-long celebration started with a kickoff program held at the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Covered Court on August 6, 2024. Organized by Sandigan-Lakas ng mga Kawaning Bayan ng PFDA (SALAKAB-PFDA), this year’s sportsfest was quite unique with the theme “Palarong Pambata”, aimed at encouraging personnel of all ages to participate in the classic Filipino childhood games as an alternative to physically demanding sports.

On August 8, 2024, PFDA Central Office (PFDA-CO) personnel unleashed their creativity during POWER-UP Game Booths, a one-day activity where staff and personnel roamed around the office and participated in carnival-style, do-it-yourself game booths organized by each department/unit. 

Meanwhile, during the anniversary program on August 9, 2024, Acting General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan expressed his appreciation to all PFDA personnel nationwide for their continuous hard work and commitment to the betterment of the fisheries sector. In his speech, GM Pangapalan also encouraged everyone to constantly level up the fishing industry.

“To all the employees of PFDA, let us all remember that we have 48 years worth of reason to be proud of. Afterward, the PFDA proudly acknowledged the many years of commitment and dedication of all the Service Loyalty Awardees in the PFDA-CO and PFDA Regional Fish Ports nationwide.

Furthermore, the Best Cheer during the kickoff program and the winners of the Palarong Pambata 2024 were also recognized. The program also included the awarding of the Best POWER-UP Game Booths.

The celebration was also attended by personnel from the PFDA- Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) led by Port Manager Ms. Luz P. Ortiz.

In addition, as an extension of the week-long anniversary celebration, the Human Resources Division-ASD organized an application for PAG-IBIG Loyalty Card on August 12, 2024 and a Blood Letting Activity by Philippine Blood Center (PBC) on August 13, 2024.

PFDA Agency News 08052024 PFDA inks MOA with Libas LGU revitalized fish port soon to rise

 

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), led by Acting General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Libas, Roxas City, headed by Mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas, signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the rehabilitation and improvement of the Libas Fish Port, on August 2, 2024, at the PFDA Central Office, Diliman, Quezon City. 

Before the signing, GM Pangapalan congratulated Libas Mayor Dadivas for the realization of this project. He is thankful for the continuing partnership that the PFDA and the Libas-LGU have built throughout the years. 

On the other hand, Libas Mayor Dadidas committed to working with PFDA for the success of the improvement project. The mayor also showed his gratitude for making this project possible, which will surely improve the lives of the people in Libas and further enrich the fishing industry of Roxas City. 

Roxas City in the province of Capiz is also known as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, boasting a wide array of mouthwatering seafood delicacies and abundant marine life produce.

June PFDA 2024 Monthly Briefer v2

 

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) amassed 59,259.88 metric tons (MT) of fish for all their clients and stakeholders in the month of June 2024. 

With a 25.63% increase, the PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) delivered 105.85 MT of fish this month. Also, the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex showed a positive performance with an increase of 2.92%, turning over 925.995 MT of fish.

Meanwhile, the PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSPFC) experienced a slight setback in its monthly fish unloading volume. Even so, the southernmost RFP delivered a staggering volume of 29,635.67 MT of fish. 

At the same time, the first and the biggest PFDA RFP in Luzon, the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC), unloaded a significant volume of 21,792.80 MT of fish.  

Due to the start of the ‘Habagat’ season, the PFDA - Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) saw a slight decrease in the delivery of fish this June with 2,505.30 MT of fish. On the other hand, the PFDA - Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) also saw a small decline and unloaded 2,308.75 MT of fish. 

Subsequently, amid inclement weather conditions in June, the PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) and the PFDA – Camaligan Fish Port (PFDA-CFP) were able to deliver 1,794.20 MT and 0.21 MT of fish, respectively, to their respective customers. 

Moreover, following a three-month implementation of a closed fishing season in Davao Gulf from June 1 to August 31, 2024, the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) unloaded a much-needed 1,794.20 MT of fish.

Despite some setbacks due to weather and closed fishing season, the PFDA and its RFPs are consistently doing their best to provide sufficient and affordable fishery products to its clients and stakeholders.

PFDA Agency News 07192024 PFDA CO holds IQA prepares for six time ISO certification

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) conducted its annual Internal Quality Audit (IQA) of all PFDA-Central Office (CO) units on July 17 to 19, 2024 in preparation for the upcoming third-party ISO 9001:2015 certification audit.

With the leadership of the IQA Team Head and Internal Audit Department Manager Ms. Brenda T. Malapira, the auditors ensure that all personnel abided by the Quality Management System (QMS) based on the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 standards. 

“ISO is a way of life for all of us for many years.” Quality Management Representative (QMR) and Technical Services Department Manager Engr. Danilo A. Axalan said. He continued that ISO is a continuing improvement in a company to give better services. 

On the other hand, according to Deputy QMR and Operations Services Department Officer-in-Charge Mr. Mc Christian Julius A. Macaranas II, “the QMS does not demand PFDA to be perfect, but to be aware of the fact that we still have room for improvement, and for us to get on track of our commitments,” Mr. Macaranas noted. 

To end the three-day IQA, Ms. Malapira commended everyone for the commitment that they gave during the IQA, and for ensuring that the Agency follows its QMS in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015. 

The PFDA Central Office is expected to undergo a third-party ISO surveillance audit from TÜV Rheinland in September 2024.
