PFDA Weekly Briefer for May 10 to 16, 2021 period.

Amid the recent landfall of Tropical Storm Crising in Davao Oriental, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFPs) managed to maintain its 12K unloading mark during the May 10-16, 2021 period.

Based on a two-week comparative report collected by the Operations Services Department (OSD), PFDA RFPs unloaded 12,439.33 metric tons (MT) of fish despite the immediate dangers posed by the tropical storm to fishing vessels and some port activities.

Data showed that the ports only experienced a 3.79% dip this week amid TS Crising’s effect in Mindanao where three out of nine PFDA RFPs are situated.

According to the report, PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) continues to outdo its weekly unloading volume. This week, the port has recorded a 10.25% increase equivalent to 3,948.25 MT of unloaded fish supply.

Moreover, PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) also did well in maintaining a positive trend after registering a 42.23% jump, or equal to 1,675.75 MT, in this week’s volume.

In addition, PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) unloaded 505.16 MT, a 5.52% increase compared to last week’s unloading record. 

On the other hand, PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) remained persistent amid the devastation of Crising in the western part of the country where most of its major fishing grounds are located. The port still managed to unload a significant 5,766.05 MT of fish, a 19.47% drawback from last week.

Aside from that, PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC), which is also one of the most affected ports during the landfall of Crising, was able to record 157.80 MT of unloaded fish (42.27% increase).

The agency’s isDA ON THE GO (iOTG) Project continues to deliver low-cost fishery products to its consumers in Metro Manila and selected areas in Luzon.

As of May 16, the iOTG project has already sold a total of 115,411.97 kilograms of low-cost fish and fishery products and has served more than 409,844 families since the start of the pandemic last March 2020.
