Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) officials joined in the Department of Agriculture - Philippines (DA)’s launching ceremony of the Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na initiative at the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) KADIWA Center, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City on May 15, 2025.
Led by Agriculture Secretary Mr. Francisco “Kiko” P. Tiu Laurel, Jr., the nationwide program aims to provide affordable rice to Filipino families, easing their financial burdens while ensuring rice farmers are fairly compensated for their harvests.
According to the DA Secretary, it is the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos to implement this program as soon as possible because the well-being and peace of mind of every Filipino family are the President’s top priorities.
Afterwards, Sec. Tiu Laurel enjoined everyone to take part in a boodle fight showcasing the 20-peso rice.
As part of the nationwide launch of the BBM Na initiative, several KADIWA outlets across the National Capital Region, Region III, and Region IV have begun selling rice at P20 per kilo. The program is expected to expand to more outlets in nearby provinces in the coming months.
The P20-per-kilo rice is available for the members of the vulnerable sectors including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), solo parents, and 4Ps beneficiaries.
PFDA OIC-Assistant General Manager Atty. Edward M. Campos, Corporate Planning and MIS Department Manager Ms. Gina J. Reyes, OIC-Operations Services Department Mr. Mc Christian Julius A. Macaranas II, and OIC-Public Information Division Mr. Miguel M. Pilarta were present during the P20 launching ceremony.
