PFDA Agency News 02052024 resized PFDA IAD completes training for government internal auditors

Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Internal Audit Department (IAD) completed the capacity-building training on the Revised Philippine Government Internal Audit Manual (RPGIAM) for government internal auditors via teleconference from November 13 to December 15, 2023.

The month-long training organized by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) aims to strengthen the internal control systems and internal audit in government. In addition,the training wants to ensure the seamless adoption of the RPGIAM in government agencies. 

During the training, participants acquired foundational skills, including the principles and concepts of internal control, concepts and standards of internal audit, and the organization of a unit for the purpose, undertaking strategic and annual work planning for internal audit, scope and process of internal audit, and conduct of compliance audit.

The capacity-building training was conducted through a blended learning approach for synchronous and asynchronous sessions. It consists of various activities, such as lectures, group exercises, presentations, and other learning and development activities (quizzes and examinations), wherein the performance of participants was assessed using a rubric of assessment set by the DBM.

At the end of the training, PFDA-IAD Officer-in-Charge Ms. Brenda T. Malapira received the highest mark (97.38%) among all the 46 internal auditors from 17 Government-Owned and -Controlled Corporations, State Universities and Colleges, and other agencies, including three ministries from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Aside from Ms. Malapira, Ms. Dinah D. Icalla, Ms. Rose Ann G. Mendoza, and Ms. Jahziel B. Flores of the PFDA-IAD also successfully completed the month-long course.
