Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), through its Gender and Development Focal Point System (PFDA-GFPS) held a Gender Sensitivity Orientation with PFDA Middle Management as part of the annual 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) with the theme “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines” on December 7, 2023 at the PFDA Conference Room, Diliman, Quezon City. 

To open the orientation, PFDA Assistant General Manager and PFDA-GFPS Executive Committee Chairperson Ms. Iris R. de Vera said that today’s discussion will help the middle managers become more aware of what GAD really is, its importance, and how they can help to advance the activities of GAD. 

“GAD is very important to our agency kaya naman kailangan natin itong bigyan ng focus so we can plan our projects better with your help as middle managers. Let us join hands because this is for PFDA,” AGM de Vera said. 

PFDA-GFPS Overall Technical Working Group (TWG) Head and Public Information Division Chief Mr. Mc Christian Julius A. Macaranas II served as the resource speaker for the GSO. 

Mr. Macaranas discussed various topics, such as the difference between sex and gender and the basics of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sexual Characteristics (SOGIESC). 

Moreover, Mr. Macaranas talked about gender stereotyping in various institutions and gender as a social construct. 

Middle managers and senior staff of all PFDA - Central Office units attended the one-day orientation about various ways to address gender-based stereotypes in the workplace and promote safe spaces for all.
