Amid heavy rains and thunderstorms, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Regional Fish Ports (RFP) managed to deliver 37,900.16 metric tons (MT) of fish to all clients and stakeholders in January 2023.
Based on reports, the combined effects of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon (Amihan) have significantly affected the operations of all PFDA ports throughout the country. Nonetheless, the agency delivered an adequate volume of fish to consumers nationwide.
Despite scattered rains nationwide, the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) started the year positively with 18,184.59 MT of fish in January, equivalent to a 17.37% jump compared to last month’s unloading.
Also, fish unloading in the PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) transported 1,687.91 MT of fish, a gain of 11.75%.
In addition, the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) tripled its monthly unloading record in January as fish transshipment operations return in the port. Records showed that the Davao port posted a 262.58% increase, ending the month at 1,687.91 MT.
On the other hand, due to inclement weather conditions, the PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) suffered a decline this January. Even so, the GenSan port still managed to unload 14,897.04 MT of fish.
In addition, port operations in the PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) and the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) were also affected by the January rain. Still, the ports delivered 31.29 MT and 558.705 MT of fish to consumers, respectively.
Furthermore, the PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) distributed 1,255.59 MT of fish despite moderate to heavy rains in the region.
