In line with its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC), in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment Region 9, organized a Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Orientation to fish port personnel on March 19, 2025, at the EZ Events and Business Place, Brgy. Manicahan, Zamboanga City.
The activity was aimed to enhance personnel’s awareness of workplace safety protocols, hazard management, and overall well-being. Furthermore, the training was conducted to equip staff with vital knowledge and practical skills for ensuring their safety while performing daily tasks. By fostering a deeper understanding of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) principles, the office aims to strengthen its safety culture and improve service quality.
The orientation featured three key resource persons from different agencies and companies who discussed topics related to OSH principles.
To begin with, Supervising Labor and Employment Officer at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 9 - Zamboanga City Field Office, Mr. Makaraya U. Adil, presented a session on General Concepts on OSH and OSH Legislation.
Followed by Regional Focal of the OSHC Regional Extension Unit 9, Engr. Leni R. Garcia, shed light on crucial health-related hazards in the workplace by discussing Industrial Hygiene and Chemical Safety.
Lastly, Area Supervisor for Southern Philippines Trucking, Engr. Dennis D. Toledo, focused on Trucking: Basic Safety Rules, 5S, and Good Housekeeping, emphasizing practical tips for safety in the trucking industry.
A total of 27 PFDA-ZFPC personnel, security, and janitorial service actively participated in the one-day training (3 females and 24 males).
