PFDA-GSFPC inoculates port workers in partnership with General Santos LGU. A total of 2,500 fish port workers, laborers, and plant and cannery workers from PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) received their COVID-19 vaccine. |
Under the combined efforts of Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and the local government unit of General Santos City, a total of 2,500 fish port workers, laborers, and plant and cannery workers from PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) received their COVID-19 vaccine, held at the Fish Port Complex Bakuna Center in Market Hall 1 on July 24 and 26-28, 2021.
This COVID-19 vaccination program aims to have PFDA-GSFPC employees protected against the spread of the virus. The agency and GenSan-LGU wanted to ensure the safety and security of everyone working inside the port, especially those economic frontliners who are consistently working amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Even before the pandemic, PFDA-GSFPC is considered to be one of the sturdiest economic pillars not only in the city but in the entire region.
General Santos City Health Officer Dr. Rochelle Gajete-Oco expressed her appreciation for the all-out support of PFDA-GSFPC management in this endeavor. Moreover, she thanked the warm acceptance of the fish port staff and personnel for their willingness to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
“We are equally grateful for the effort in making our Resbakuna Express jab a success. We will regroup and build a stronger team,” Dr. Oco said.
Through generous contributions of SARGEN Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association Inc. and Socsksargen Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII), who both allocated COVID-19 vaccines for the fish port workers, PFDA-GSFPC is looking forward to having more vaccine doses for essential workers under the A2, A3, and A4 priority group and a possible extension of the vaccination rollout.
The 2,500 vaccines were part of the 15,000 doses directly delivered to the city, as committed by the National Task Force against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr.
