In the pursuit of maintaining the city’s “probinsyudad” principle, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), in partnership with Taguig City local government unit (LGU), conducted the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement, groundbreaking ceremony, and time capsule laying for a soon-to-rise modern fish market, held in Bicutan, Taguig City on July 20, 2021.
The development of this two-hectare project dubbed as Taguig Agro-Industrial Hub for Freshwater Aquaculture and Urban Farming is under the Department of Agriculture (DA)’s Agri-Industrial Business Corridors (ABCs) which aims to provide smallholder farmers and fisherfolk access to resources, including state-of-the-art production technology, hatcheries and nurseries, capital, and value-adding facilities.
As part of this partnership, PFDA will be leading the construction of a 6,000-square meter modern fish market which is one of the components of this project.
The MOA was signed by Agriculture Secretary Dr. William D. Dar, Laguna Lake Development Authority General Manager Jaime C. Medina, and Taguig City Mayor Lino Edgardo S. Cayetano.
According to Sec Dar, this collaboration reflects a good partnership between DA and the Taguig LGU. “This will level up the urban agriculture of the country,” the Secretary said.
In addition, Taguig City Mayor Cayetano said that the city will remain pro-active in the development of agri-fishery sector which is part of the “probinsyudad” principle of the city.
