PFDA Bulletin Episode 2. As part of the 44th anniversary virtual activities of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, the PFDA – Public Information Division organized the second episode of the PFDA Bulletin entitled “Food Safety Matters: PFDA Initiatives on Ensuring Safe Fish and Fishery Products”, which was broadcasted live via PFDA Facebook Page, August 26.
The resource persons for the online program were Ms. Janet T. Manalo, Officer-in-Charge of the Regional and Municipal Projects Operations Division – OSD; Mr. Francisco Romeo G. Escandor, Officer-in-Charge of Sual Fish Port; and Mr. Nasil A. Abdul, Officer-in-Charge of Navotas Fish Port Complex - Police and Security Division.
Mr. Mc Christian Julius A. Macaranas II and Mr. Emilio Paul M. Candelaria served as the moderators and hosts of the program.
The second episode of the PFDA Bulletin provided updates on “isDA ON THE GO”, PFDA banner Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. It aims to provide an affordable, steady supply of fish and fishery products to identified communities in strategic locations within Metro Manila, and various provinces like Rizal, Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Sorsogon.
Ms. Manalo, also one of the members of the project management, served as the resource person for the isDA ON THE GO.
The episode also tackled the importance of ensuring food safety amid the pandemic, from the production, distribution, storage, preparation, and consumption of fish and fishery products.
Mr. Escandor, also a Quality Assurance Officer, presented the topic on food safety.
Ultimately, the Food Safety and Environment Management Unit (FSEMU) discussed their role as the local monitoring and coordinating body of the PFDA on concerns pertaining to compliance on food safety, proper waste management, pollution control, and other relevant fisheries and environmental laws.
Mr. Abdul, also one of the Quality Assurance Officer in NFPC, discussed the FSEMU highlights.
