The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA), together with the DA Bureaus and attached agencies and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, celebrated this year’s World Food Day last October 16, 2018 with the theme; “OUR ACTIONS ARE OUR FUTURE. A #ZERO HUNGER WORLD BY 2030 IS POSSIBLE”. The celebration was held at the Quezon City Circle. Fifty participants from the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) Central Office and the Navotas Fish Port Complex (NFPC) attended the event with Mr. Rhandall Patrick D. Ancheta as PFDA’s flag bearer. |

The WFD program was graced by Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol of the Department of Agriculture, Ms. Lotta Sylwander, United Nations (UN) World Food Programme Philippines Representative and Country Director; Mr. Jose Luis Fernandez Representative in the Philippines of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and USEC Evelyn G. Laviña who is the Chairperson of the Philippine 2018 WFD Celebration. Notably, said celebration supports the FAO’s mission to raise awareness and action for sectors suffering from hunger and the need to ensure food security and understanding of the approaches that would help end world hunger. Capping the event was a candle-lighting ceremony participated by the employees of the DA family, FAO, and other agencies who altogether made the WFD pledge underscoring their commitment to take part in the projects and efforts towards ending world hunger. |
